Special Announcement!
Duo Verde was formed by two Shepherd School of Music graduates who have established themselves as artists in the Houston community. They have designed “Project Grow” to educate younger generations about the arts, encourage literacy, and inspire personal growth and responsibility, leading to positive change that permeates the Houston community.
Caitlin Mehrtens and Alexa Thomson (violist) formed Duo Verde based on their experience in community engagement, love for chamber music, and shared goals for the future. Having co-founded a contemporary music non-profit organization, Caitlin helped to start a series of workshops for youth, each focusing on a way to create music beyond the boundaries of standard notation. Alexa has performed outreach projects in several notable Houston venues, focusing on unique viola repertoire with emphasis towards the stories behind the music. Caitlin and Alexa were inspired to combine their strengths in a creative and innovative performance experience called Project Grow.
This new interactive presentation is founded upon Duo Verde’s passion for not only arts and education, but inspiring personal responsibility. Duo Verde hopes that by combining literature with performing arts and a call-to-action, they can provide an experience that helps young people have the inspiration, knowledge, and tools to make positive change for themselves and those around them.
